Where these come from
Staff and people who were asked these questions send in ideas. Each one is posted here with the wording it would change. Some changes are for one community only. Those show up on that community’s site, and each card says which it is.
What your vote does
Your vote tells the person who builds HEAT what people think. It is not a ballot. The count alone decides nothing. A change must also pass the five tests on the Governance page. A change to a result has to clear a higher bar than a change to wording. So a change can win the vote and still be turned down. Either way, the reason is written down.
Anyone can vote. There is no sign in. One vote per change, and pressing the same button again takes it back. A comment counts for as much as a vote.
Who decides, and what happens next
Gaither Stephens builds HEAT, and he decides. The reason goes in the Changelog, and the change leaves this list. Sometimes a decided change needs a second look. Then it comes back here and takes votes again.
What is kept about you
No name. No sign in. One code is kept so one person cannot vote fifty times. It is made by scrambling the address of the network you are on with a secret and the item's number. It is the same for everyone on that network, it cannot be read back as an address, and it is not tied to your device. Your name shows up only if a change is adopted and you ask for credit.
Comments post straight away. A computer reads each one first. It holds any comment that looks like it names a person. It never holds a comment for being critical.
